The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within
Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of future technologies, energy and climate, health
innovation and fundamentals of nature. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions
for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations.
Therefore, about one quarter of our staff are post-docs, post-graduates or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employs 2300
    people.
For the Electrocatalysis and Interfaces Group in the Electrochemistry Laboratory, we are looking for a postdoctoral
fellow. This project aims to understand the mechanisms of electrochemical oxidation processes for the removal of
emerging contaminants in water and to develop next-generation electrocatalysts for water purification.

Postdoctoral Fellow in Electrochemical Degradation of Water Pollutants

    Your tasks

    - Your work will focus on investigating the mechanisms of electrochemical oxidation process (EOP) for the removal of
emerging contaminants in water via the generation of hydroxyl radicals
    - Reaction intermediates and products will be analysed using a range of analytical chemistry techniques
    - Advanced characterisation methods, including synchrotron-based techniques, will be used to investigate materials
under operating conditions and establish design principles for next-generation EOP electrocatalysts
    - During your postdoc, you will interact closely with colleagues within the Electrochemistry Department, the Swiss
    Light Source, and international collaborators

    Your profile

    - You hold a PhD degree in Physical Chemistry, Chemical Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a closely related
    discipline
    - You have a strong background and experience in electrochemistry and water purification through electrochemical
    oxidation processes
    - Experience with analytical techniques for water purification analysis is required
    - Knowledge of spectroscopic techniques is an advantage
    - You have a strong interest in experimental work and take initiative in developing new solutions
    - You are able to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative and interdisciplinary research
    team
    - Excellent communication and scientific writing skills in English are required

    We offer

Our institution is based on an interdisciplinary, innovative and dynamic collaboration. You will profit from a
systematic training on the job, in addition to personal development possibilities and our pronounced vocational
training culture. If you wish to optimally combine work and family life or other personal interests, we are able to
support you with our modern employment conditions and the on-site infrastructure.
Your employment contract is limited to 2 years with the option to extend for an additional year.

For further information, please contact PD Dr Emiliana Fabbri, emiliana.fabbri@psi.ch or +41 56 310 27 95.
