    In this role, you will contribute to the development of ABB battery solutions through applied research. You combine
    experimental research with modelling the underlying physical phenomena as well as utilizing state-of-the-art
    simulations. You specify requirements and develop novel energy storage concepts for evolving applications, such as
    diesel-electric hybrid trains, electric buses or stationary energy storage solutions. As a member of the Energy Storage
    Group in our ABB Research Center, you will engage with cross-functional teams inside and outside the company, and work
    together to demonstrate these concepts in prototypes, serving as starting points for next-generation energy storage
    products. Furthermore, you will contribute to the definition of the team research roadmap and to the management of the
    research projects.

    Your responsibilities

    - Conduct applied research in the area of battery technology
    - Contribute to the planning, construction, setup, and execution of experiments
    - Design battery systems by integrating cells into modules and packs, using novel approaches in mechanical design and
    production
    - Select and assess battery cells for specific applications
    - Apply advanced simulation tools to survey and validate sophisticated designs
    - Drive research activities, generate intellectual property and write scientific publications
    - Closely collaborate with scientists and engineers from universities and global ABB divisions

    Your background

    - MSc in mechanical engineering, physics, or a closely related area. PhD is a plus.
    - Experience in practical laboratory work, including experimental setups, their construction, advanced measurement
    techniques, and data analysis
    - Solid background in mechanical engineering and system design with FEM, CAD
    - Background in battery design is a plus
    - Knowledge and experience with applying state-of-the-art simulations is a plus
    - Collaborative, solution-focused attitude, as well as networking skills
    - Strong communication skills in English (both written and spoken), German is a plus
