Intern (m/f/d) Electro Technology: Reliability of semiconductor modules

Take your next career step at ABB with a global team that is energizing the transformation of society and industry to
achieve a more productive, sustainable future. At ABB, we have the clear goal of driving diversity and inclusion across
all dimensions: gender, LGBTQ+, abilities, ethnicity and generations. Together, we are embarking on a journey where
each and every one of us, individually and collectively, welcomes and celebrates individual differences.

ABB Corporate Research, in close cooperation with varied ABB business areas, is developing the foundations for the
next generation of ABB products. In Switzerland, ABB Corporate Research, located in the proximity of Zurich, employs
about 200 scientists from over 30 countries with expertise in automation and power technologies for manufacturing,
consumer and process industries as well as power utilities. Within the Industrial Automation department, in the Power
electronics group, the reliability and thermal performance of wide band gap semiconductor modules is currently under
scientific investigation. Measuring the thermal resistance of different board design together with analyzing the
failure mechanisms after power cycling are the main objectives of this project. The reliability facts and figures will
then be extrapolated from the experimental results to serve the application case and possibly write a publication.

    Your responsibilities

    - Support technology development and reliability of power electronics modules research.
    - Support power cycling lifetime testing on selected baseplate modules, characterize the devices before and after
aging, supervise the test setups and help with the failure analysis.
    - Tasks in related reliability topics at package level include SAM, SEM-EDX cross section and microscopy images.
    - Perform precision thermal resistance measurements of semiconductor devices.
    - Document findings scientific/technical reports.

    Your background

    - Currently pursuing a degree in electrical engineering, physics, or a related subject (advanced B.Sc. or M.Sc.
    degree); official enrollment essential.
    - Experience in experimental laboratory work and willing to do work in an international environment.
    - Programming skills (preferably Labview / Matlab / Python).
    - Know-how in data analysis tools, and statistics is advantageous.
    - Experience with FE-Modeling is advantageous.
    - Strong interest in interdisciplinary work.
    - Self-organized team player with ability to work independently and as a part of a team.

    Benefits

    - Canteen
    - Childcare
    - Flexible work practices
